The 8964 Museum (六四記憶‧人權博物館) is an online museum dedicated to preserving the memory of the 1989 Tiananmen Square protests and massacre. Launched on August 4, 2021, the museum was created in response to increasing political repression in Hong Kong, aiming to safeguard historical artifacts, archives, images, and oral histories related to June 4th. After the passing of the Hong Kong National Security Law, the museum became an independent overseas project, continuing its mission to connect and preserve the history of the Chinese democracy movement for future generations.

The Alliance on trial (2026)
The Hong Kong Alliance (香港市民支援愛國民主運動聯合會 / 支聯會), which founded and funded this museum, was itself prosecuted under the National Security Law. On 21 August 2026, three national-security judges at the West Kowloon Law Courts convicted the Alliance as an organisation together with its chair Lee Cheuk-yan (李卓人, 69) and barrister vice-chair Chow Hang-tung (鄒幸彤, 41) of incitement to subversion — finding they had spread the call to "end one-party dictatorship" (結束一黨專政) and likened the 2019 protests to the 1989 Tiananmen crackdown to stir hostility toward the Communist Party. For three decades the Alliance's Victoria Park candlelight vigil was the only large-scale public commemoration of June 4th on Chinese soil, drawing tens of thousands each year until it was banned in 2020. Founding member and former lawmaker Albert Ho (何俊仁) had pleaded guilty when the trial opened in January.
Lee and Chow had been behind bars since September 2021; at her 28 August mitigation hearing Chow declined to plead for leniency, saying the conviction showed that "pursuing democracy is a crime." On 11 September 2026 the court jailed Chow Hang-tung for 7 years 3 months, Lee Cheuk-yan for 7 years, and Albert Ho for 5 years 2 months (reduced for his guilty plea), and fined the dissolved Alliance HK$1.5 million. The judges placed the case in the higher "serious nature" band — citing the defendants' "mobilising power and influence" — even while acknowledging it involved "no violence or the threat of violence." The verdict drew condemnation from Human Rights Watch, the UN, and the governments of France and Germany (which said they "deeply regret" it and urged the pair's release), while the Hong Kong government welcomed it and hit back at "external forces."
