The Cantonese Service of Radio Free Asia (RFA) was established in May 1998 to provide independent news coverage for Cantonese-speaking audiences, particularly in Hong Kong and southern China. Over 27 years, it became a trusted source of uncensored news amid growing media suppression. Following significant funding cuts by the Trump administration in 2025, RFA announced the shutdown of its Cantonese service on July 1, 2025 — coinciding with the anniversary of Hong Kong’s handover. Its reporting, especially during and after the 2019 pro-democracy protests, earned it a vital role in preserving press freedom in the region. 自由亞洲電台（RFA）粵語組於1998年5月成立，致力為粵語社群，特別是香港及華南地區，提供不受審查的獨立新聞。27年來，粵語組成為香港市民在媒體自由日漸受壓下的重要資訊來源。2025年，因美國特朗普政府大幅削減預算，RFA於7月1日宣佈停止粵語新聞更新，與香港主權移交紀念日同日。尤其自2019年反修例運動以來，RFA粵語組扮演了維護言論自由的重要角色，成為市民信賴的新聞平台。
